How your result is calculated
- Auburn uses a 4.0 scale with no plus/minus grades: A 4.0, B 3.0, C 2.0, D 1.0, F 0.0.
- GPA = total grade points ÷ total GPA hours, where grade points = the grade's points × the course credit hours.
- Only coursework attempted at Auburn University is used; credit accepted in transfer is excluded from the GPA.
- All failing grades count in the GPA as F: F, FA (failure for excessive absences) and WF (withdrawn failing).
- W is not used in the term or cumulative GPA. S and U do not enter grade-point computations.
- S-U option: a junior or senior with an overall average of at least 2.5 on 20 or more Auburn hours may take one course per term S-U (not Core Curriculum or required courses), up to 12 credits in total.
- Incompletes (IN) become the grade the instructor specified if not cleared within 6 months. IP (professional programs) is not calculated in the GPA until cleared and becomes F if not cleared within one year.
- Repeats: a course with D or F may be repeated once without the dean's permission; repeating an A, B or C needs written permission. Grades and hours for both attempts count in the GPA unless the Grade Adjustment Policy was used for the first attempt.
- Grade Adjustment Policy (GAP): undergraduates enrolled Fall 2000 or later may delete up to three grades of D or F (including FA, WF or U) from the cumulative GPA computation and credit. Not for transfer credit, courses in an earlier bachelor's degree, academic-honesty grades or Pharmacy/Veterinary Medicine professional students; it cannot be reversed, and a required course must still be repeated at Auburn.
- Academic honors (dean's list, graduation honors) use all grades, including grades removed by the Grade Adjustment Policy.
