How your result is calculated

Rule set v2026.10.02 · Verified 2 Oct 2026
Term GPA
Term GPA = Σ (Semester hours × Grade point) ÷ Σ Semester hours
Cumulative GPA
Cumulative GPA = Σ (Semester hours × Grade point) over all courses ÷ Σ Semester hours
Rules the calculator follows
  • GPA = total grade points earned ÷ the credits applied toward the GPA.
  • The GPA is truncated after the second decimal (1.99672 becomes 1.99); Baylor does not round the GPA.
  • Minus and plus grades are printed to two decimals (A- 3.67, B+ 3.33 … D- .67); there is no A+.
  • I, IP, W, P, FA, CR, NC and AU are not included in the GPA. A failing grade in a pass/fail course (FA) is not included in the GPA; a regular F is.
  • Repeats: a course may be repeated when the highest grade earned is C- or below (or with dean approval to meet a minimum-grade requirement), with at most three attempts including W. All Baylor grades count in the term and cumulative GPA unless Academic Grade Forgiveness is applied.
  • Academic Grade Forgiveness: on request, the first grade (C- or below, not a W) of a repeated course is excluded from the GPA, for at most three courses in the undergraduate career; if the course is taken a third time, all grades except the first count. It cannot be cancelled once applied.
  • Courses taken at Baylor may not be repeated elsewhere for transfer credit; grade point status changes only through work done at Baylor.
  • Pass-fail: with the dean's permission, one standard graded course per term, for general elective credit only, at most eighteen semester hours toward the degree.
  • An Incomplete must be removed by the end of the next semester (including summer) or it changes to F; an extension of up to six months may be petitioned.
  • Transfer coursework (C or better required) does not alter the Baylor grade point average.
