How your result is calculated

Rule set v2026.10.02 · Verified 2 Oct 2026
Term GPA
Term GPA = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) ÷ Σ Credit hours (failed courses left out)
CGPA
CGPA = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) over all courses ÷ Σ Credit hours
Rules the calculator follows
  • GPA = Σ (credits × grade point) ÷ Σ credits over the courses passed/completed in the term; F grades are not counted in the GPA but stay permanently on the grade sheet and transcript.
  • CGPA = total grade points accumulated to date ÷ total credit hours earned.
  • Courses graded D or higher count as earned credits; an F earns no credit, and an F in a core course must be repeated (an F in an optional course may be repeated or replaced by a substitute course).
  • A course repeated after an F can earn no grade better than B.
  • A course graded below B may be repeated once for grade improvement, giving up the earlier grade, with B as the best grade obtainable; at most four courses (B.Sc. Engg. and B.URP) or five courses (B.Arch.) may be repeated this way. A course graded B or better cannot be repeated for improvement.
  • X (continuation) is given for project, thesis and design courses that run on into the next term.
  • A minimum GPA of 2.20 is required for the bachelor's degree, with at least 157 credit hours earned in engineering and 190 in architecture.
  • The degree is awarded with honours for an overall GPA of 3.75 or better.
