How your result is calculated
- Each A–F or 0–100 grade is converted to a CASPA numeric value and multiplied by the attempted credits (quality points); GPA = total quality points ÷ total attempted credits.
- US percentage grades convert as 90–100 = A, 80–89 = B, 70–79 = C, 60–69 = D, 59 and below = F. US and Canadian number grades that fall between listed values are rounded up to the higher grade (e.g. 2.8 → 3.0, B).
- All grades earned for repeated courses count; CASPA does not apply school policies for forgiveness, academic renewal or grade replacement.
- Non-graded credits (advanced placement, pass or satisfactory credits, AP exams, courses taken pass/fail) are left out. WF counts as F.
- All GPAs are in semester hours: 1 quarter hour = 0.667 semester hours.
- CASPA calculates a GPA for each school, for each academic year (freshman to senior), a cumulative undergraduate GPA (with post-baccalaureate work), an overall GPA (adding graduate work) and course-subject GPAs.
- Science GPA uses Biology/Zoology, Inorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics and Other Science; Non-Science GPA uses English, Math, Social/Behavioral Science and Other Non-Science (math is not in the science GPA).
- CASPA also reports a BCP Totals GPA from Biology/Zoology, Inorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry and Physics only.

Questions
How is CASPA Year-level GPA calculated?
Year-level GPA is the average of your grade points weighted by attempted credits: multiply each course's attempted credits by the grade point for your grade, add these up, and divide by the total attempted credits. Under CASPA grade values, A+ carries 4 grade points on a 4-point scale.
How is CASPA Cumulative undergraduate GPA calculated?
Cumulative undergraduate GPA is the average of the grade points of all courses taken so far, weighted by attempted credits.
Is OpenCGPA an official CASPA calculator?
No. OpenCGPA is independent and not affiliated with Centralized Application Service for Physician Assistants. It applies the rules published in CASPA's own documents, linked on this page. Your official result is the one on your grade card.
