How your result is calculated

Rule set v2026.10.02 · Verified 2 Oct 2026
Term grade point average (TGPA)
Term grade point average (TGPA) = Σ (Credits × Grade point) ÷ Σ Credits
Cumulative grade point average (CGPA)
Cumulative grade point average (CGPA) = Σ (Credits × Grade point) over all courses ÷ Σ Credits
Rules the calculator follows
  • Every GPA is weighted: multiply each course's credits by its grade points, add them up and divide by the total credits attempted. Each GPA is calculated independently of the others.
  • F, FNS, R and NR carry 0 grade points and count in the GPA as failures.
  • S, NS, CR, NC, NCS and NCR are not calculated in the AGPA, CGPA or final graduation GPA. CR needs a grade of D- or higher; a student may take at most one course per 30 credits on a Credit/No Credit basis, up to 12 credits in the degree, and only for eligible out-of-program electives.
  • A course dropped by the DISC deadline is recorded as DISC: it carries no grade point value and does not affect the GPA.
  • INC (Incomplete) is shown with a letter grade (for example C/INC) that counts the missing work as zero.
  • Repeated courses: only the grade of the latest attempt is used in the CGPA and the final graduation GPA, and in the AGPA when both attempts fall in the same assessment year. A grade given as a penalty for academic misconduct stays in every GPA even if the course is repeated.
  • A failed course (or NC) may be repeated only once without permission; a passed course may be repeated once for personal reasons, and the repeated credit (REPT) carries no credit value.
  • When a supplemental examination is written, the grades from both attempts are included in the grade point averages.
  • The Assessment GPA (AGPA) is calculated at the end of each academic year (summer, fall and winter) when at least 12 credits were attempted, and decides academic standing. The CGPA covers all courses since admission to the current degree or certificate, including transfer credits that carry a grade.
  • The Term GPA (TGPA) is for reference only and changes when grades change or courses are repeated.
  • The calendar gives no percentage ranges for letter grades: departments set their own, and each course outline states its grade distribution and evaluation scheme.
