How your result is calculated
- Curtin does not use or calculate a Grade Point Average; results are averaged as marks out of 100.
- CWA (Course Weighted Average) = sum of (unit credits × mark) ÷ sum of unit credits over all grade/mark units in the course; the SWA (Study Period Weighted Average) is the same calculation for one study period.
- Failed grade/mark units count with their mark, F-IN (Fail – Incomplete/Insufficient Assessment) with its mark if any, and ANN (result annulled for academic misconduct) as 0.
- Grade/mark units credited to the course as Automatic Credit or Designated Credit count in the CWA.
- Pass/fail units, ungraded passes (including a P recorded in place of a grade/mark), withdrawals (WD) and units with an interim grade are left out.
- The final unit mark is rounded at x.5 (79.50–79.99 becomes 80; 79.01–79.49 becomes 79).
- Grades 10 to 5 only label the mark band; a fail (F) is recorded with the percentage mark achieved.
- For double degrees, an Award Weighted Average (AWA) is calculated for each degree from the units contributing to it.

Questions
How is the Curtin SWA calculated?
SWA is the average of your course marks, weighted by credits: multiply each mark by the course's credits, add these up and divide by the total credits. Under Curtin Course Weighted Average (CWA) it is reported out of 100.
Is OpenCGPA an official Curtin calculator?
No. OpenCGPA is independent and not affiliated with Curtin University. It applies the rules published in Curtin's own documents, linked on this page. Your official result is the one on your grade card.
