How your result is calculated
- Deakin uses a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) rather than a Grade Point Average. Your WAM does not appear on your academic transcript.
- WAM = sum of (achievable credit points × unit mark) ÷ sum of the achievable credit points of the units counted.
- Passed (HD, D, C, P) and failed (N) units count with their actual mark; a Fail counts with its mark from 0 to 49.
- Where a unit has no mark, Pass Conceded (PC) counts as 50, and Not passed, not assessed (XN) and Withdrawn – Fail (WN) count as 0.
- Not counted: Withdrawn early (WE), Withdrawn late (WL), Withdrawn with debt remission (WR), Ungraded Pass (UP), Ungraded Fail (UN), cross-institutional units (EP, EN), unfinalised or pending results, and credit for prior learning.
- Only units studied at Deakin count. In a combined or double degree a separate WAM is calculated for each degree, using only the units that belong to that degree.
- Some honours courses (for example in health sciences, nursing, psychology, social work, occupational therapy and engineering) calculate the WAM differently; Student Central advises on these.

Questions
How is the Deakin Average calculated?
Average is the average of your course marks, weighted by credit points: multiply each mark by the course's credit points, add these up and divide by the total credit points. Under Weighted Average Mark (WAM) it is reported out of 100.
Is OpenCGPA an official Deakin calculator?
No. OpenCGPA is independent and not affiliated with Deakin University. It applies the rules published in Deakin's own documents, linked on this page. Your official result is the one on your grade card.
