How your result is calculated

Rule set v2026.10.02 · Verified 2 Oct 2026
GPA
GPA = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) ÷ Σ Credit hours
CGPA
CGPA = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) over all courses ÷ Σ Credit hours
Rules the calculator follows
  • GCU grades theory and practical courses on a relative scale: the letter grade depends on your marks and your position in the class, so no fixed marks range is published for each grade. Projects, dissertations and internship reports are graded on an absolute scale.
  • Note that A is 3.7 at GCU (A+ is 4.0); there is no A- grade.
  • GCU calls the numeric value of a grade × the course's credit hours the course's 'grade points'; the GPA is the sum of these divided by the semester's credit hours, and the CGPA the same over all semesters.
  • To pass a course you need at least 50% in the semester work and in the final examination separately; otherwise the grade is F. No grace marks are given.
  • An F course must be repeated, and only one chance is given to pass it.
  • A course with a grade below B- may be repeated once to improve it; if the grade does not improve, the earlier grade is kept.
  • Transferred credit hours are not counted in the GPA or CGPA.
  • A CGPA below 1.50 at the end of any semester means re-admission to the first semester; 1.50 to 2.00 means probation. A CGPA of at least 2.30 is required for the award of the degree.
