How your result is calculated

Rule set v2026.10.02 · Verified 2 Oct 2026
GPA
GPA = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) ÷ Σ Credit hours
CGPA
CGPA = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) over all courses ÷ Σ Credit hours
Rules the calculator follows
  • Instructors may use absolute or relative grading and may set the share of A, B and C grades; the marks bands are IBA's absolute grading plan for converting final grades to grade points.
  • CGPA = sum of (credit hours × grade points) ÷ sum of credit hours, over all courses taken.
  • Below 60% is F (0 points).
  • A course may be repeated to improve the grade: the better grade counts in the CGPA and the two are not averaged. This is not possible after graduating or dropping out.
  • A withdrawn course (W) does not affect the GPA. An additional course taken beyond the programme is not included in the CGPA.
  • Students must keep a CGPA of at least 2.20. A first-year undergraduate (under 30 credits) below 2.00 is on probation for one semester and is dropped if the CGPA is not raised to 2.00; a CGPA of 2.00-2.19 brings a warning and probation until it reaches 2.20.
