How your result is calculated
- The grade point average is based on credits earned at Iowa State: total quality points ÷ total credits in all courses attempted.
- Credits earned with S, P, NP or T are not used in the grade point average but may count toward degree requirements.
- Repeats: the most recent Iowa State attempt replaces earlier attempts in the cumulative grade point average, up to 18 repeated credits, even if the new grade is lower; beyond 18 credits all attempts count. All attempts stay on the record.
- Any course with an F, NP or passing grade may be repeated; a course first taken for a grade must be repeated for a grade.
- A grade earned by repeating an Iowa State course at another institution does not replace the Iowa State grade.
- Up to 9 credits of elective courses may be taken Pass-Not Pass: D- or better is recorded as P and F as NP, and neither counts in the grade point average.
- An Incomplete (I) changes to the grade in the incomplete contract after one calendar year; the resolved grade counts in the term and cumulative grade point average.
- A missing grade (N) changes to F after one calendar year.
- A cumulative grade point average of 2.00 is required for a bachelor's degree.
