Cumulative GPA
Cumulative GPA = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) over all courses ÷ Σ Credit hours
Rules the calculator follows
  • Only the letter grades A+ through F count in the semester and cumulative GPA. A+ is worth 4.0 points, the same as A.
  • Grade replacement: an undergraduate who retakes a course can have only the new grade counted in the GPA; the earlier grade becomes X and its credit hours are not counted.
  • Grade replacement is limited to three courses or 10 credit hours, whichever comes first; it applies only to courses taken in Fall 2001 or later, not to grades given for academic misconduct, and must be approved no later than 24 hours after grades are due in the graduation semester. A school may refuse it for courses required for its major, minor or certificate.
  • The retake must end in a letter grade: if it ends in W, I or NC, the earlier grade stays.
  • Pass/fail option: P is not counted in the GPA; an F is counted.
  • An incomplete (I) changes automatically to F after one calendar year.
  • Transfer credit is recorded as T and is not counted in the GPA.
  • The cumulative GPA your school uses for degree requirements may differ from the university record.
