How your result is calculated
- GPA = grade points ÷ credit hours attempted and graded A, B, C, D or F. Plus/minus grades are 0.3 above or below the letter; not every school uses plus/minus.
- No grade points are assigned for P, I, W, S or CR; courses graded CR or NC do not count in the GPA.
- The official KU GPA includes only course work taken in residence at KU: transfer work and credit by examination are excluded. It is calculated per term and cumulatively, separately for each career (undergraduate, graduate…).
- Grade replacement: when an undergraduate repeats at KU a course numbered 000-699 originally graded A- through F, the higher grade is used in the GPA and the other grade stays on the transcript but is not counted. Applied automatically; at most five grade-replacement repeats in total, and each repeat uses one regardless of the grade earned. Only the same course (department, number, credit hours) qualifies.
- Grade replacement cannot be used for grades given as an academic-misconduct sanction or for courses applied to a KU bachelor's degree already awarded; otherwise all attempts count in the GPA.
- Credit/No Credit option: at most one course per semester; CR = C- or above for undergraduates, NC = D+ and below. CR/NC courses cannot satisfy undergraduate major requirements.
- An I not made up within one calendar year (or by the end of the graduation term) becomes F, U or the instructor's lapse grade.
