How your result is calculated
- The University of Karachi calls the cumulative average the CGPR. Grade points for a course = credit hours × the grade point for the score; CGPR = total grade points in all courses ÷ total credit hours.
- A course needs at least 50% to pass (the prospectus makes an exception for Business Administration); theory and practical are separate passing heads.
- Missing the exam through absence or detention for short attendance counts as failing that course.
- A failed course can be reattempted up to two more times (three attempts in all) before the student must attend it again.
- A BS degree needs a CGPR of at least 2.2; programmes that require it (such as BE) need 2.45.
- A student short of the required CGPR gets one chance to improve it by reappearing in two courses with less than 61 marks (C-, D+ or D).
