How your result is calculated
Kathmandu University's documents list the grade points but do not print the averaging formula; the calculator uses the standard credit-weighted average.
Kathmandu University's regulation adds conditions to this average; they are listed in the rules below.
- Each course is graded on the combined total of the in-semester assessment and the end-semester examination marks: 50% in-semester and 50% end-semester for general courses; 50% in-semester, 25% end-semester theory and 25% viva or practical for practical courses (a Subject Committee may change these weights for a course).
- To pass a course a student must obtain at least 40% of the marks in the end-semester examination; at least 40% in the in-semester assessment (50% in practical courses) is needed to sit the end-semester examination.
- The final grade is determined by aggregating the course-wise grades.
- Non-credit courses (at most two in the whole programme) are not graded.
- A course passed in a compartment or other examination after failing, or in a repeated course, gets at most an A- grade.
- The SGPA must stay at 2 or above throughout the programme, and no student can pass the level with an F in any course.
- The Exam Board may adjust grades if academic malpractice is suspected or the in-semester and end-semester averages differ greatly in a subject.
