How your result is calculated
Kerala University's documents list the grade points but do not print the averaging formula; the calculator uses the standard credit-weighted average.
- Each course is marked out of 100 (Continuous Evaluation 20 + End Semester Evaluation 80). Its grade point is the mark divided by 10, so 82 marks give 8.2 — grade points are not whole numbers.
- SCPA = Σ(credits × grade point) ÷ Σ credits of the courses taken in the semester.
- CCPA = total credit points of all semesters ÷ total credits of all semesters.
- Letter grades label bands of marks and of SCPA/CCPA: A+ 90% and above (9 and above), A 80 to below 90 (8 to below 9), B 70–80 (7–8), C 60–70 (6–7), D 50–60 (5–6), E (4 to below 5), F below 4.
- For students admitted from 2015, a course is passed with 35% marks (E grade), with a separate 35% minimum in Continuous Evaluation and in End Semester Evaluation; the original 2013 rule was 40%.
- A semester is completed with SCPA 4.00 (E) and the degree needs a pass in all courses and CCPA 4.00 (E).
- Courses taken above the minimum credits are not counted in the CCPA; only the courses with the best credit points are used.
- CCPA(S) is the same average leaving out the language courses, the foundation course for language and the open course.
- Grades are given on the total of internal and external marks; a pass (P) also needs a separate minimum of 35% in the external and in the internal marks.
- F (fail) and Ab (absent) carry 0 grade points.
- SGPA = Σ(credits × grade point) ÷ Σ credits of all courses taken in the semester.
- CGPA = Σ(semester credits × SGPA) ÷ Σ semester credits over all semesters.
- SGPA and CGPA are rounded to 2 decimal places.
