- Grades are awarded on the overall percentage of marks in a course (continuous internal evaluation plus end semester examination).
- A pass needs at least 40% in the end semester examination and at least 50% of CIE and ESE together; otherwise the grade is F.
- F, FE and I carry 0 grade points.
- SGPA = Σ(credits × grade points) ÷ Σ credits over all courses in that semester's curriculum; failed and incomplete courses are included.
- CGPA = Σ(credits × grade points) ÷ Σ credits over all curriculum courses up to that semester; failed courses are included.
- For lateral-entry students, first- and second-semester credits are not counted in the CGPA.
- The 2 activity-point credits are required for the degree but are not counted in the CGPA.
- First Class with Distinction: CGPA 8.0 and above. First Class: CGPA 6.5 and above.
- Grades are awarded on the percentage of total marks in a course.
- A pass needs at least 40% in the end semester examination and at least 50% of CIE and ESE together; courses assessed only by CIE need 50%.
- F, FE and Ab carry 0 grade points and are included in both SGPA and CGPA.
- SGPA = Σ(credits × grade points) ÷ Σ credits registered in the semester.
- CGPA = Σ(credits × grade points) ÷ Σ credits over all curriculum courses registered since the first semester.
- Courses the curriculum lists as non-computable, Minor and Honours courses, and credits earned through challenge examinations are not counted in SGPA or CGPA.
- SGPA and CGPA are calculated to two decimal places.
- First Class with Distinction: CGPA 8.0 and above. First Class: CGPA 6.5 to below 8.0. The degree needs a CGPA of at least 5.0.

How is KTU SGPA calculated?
SGPA is the average of your grade points weighted by credits: multiply each course's credits by the grade point for your grade, add these up, and divide by the total credits. Under B.Tech 2019 Scheme, S carries 10 grade points on a 10-point scale.
How is KTU CGPA calculated?
CGPA is the average of the grade points of all courses taken so far, weighted by credits.
