How your result is calculated
- Progress is evaluated on the cumulative grade point average (GPA) of all graded courses on the Laurier undergraduate record. A 0.5-credit course carries half, and a 0.25-credit course a quarter, of the weight of a 1.0-credit course.
- Example from the calendar: A (11) in a 1.0 credit, C- in a 0.5 credit and B+ in a 0.25 credit give 15.25 grade points ÷ 1.75 credits = 8.71.
- GPAs are rounded to 2 decimal places.
- The percentage-to-letter conversion applies unless the instructor announces otherwise, in writing, at the start of the course.
- XF (final exam or final assessment not written) and DR (dropped after the academic deadline) are failed courses worth 0 grade points. A final exam not written counts as 0 in the course grade.
- AUD, CR, P, S, U and WD carry no grade points. Courses marked 'Not Accountable' (by petition) stay on the transcript but are not used in the GPA.
- When a course is repeated, the grade of the second attempt is used to calculate the GPA; the first attempt stays on the transcript without credit. Repeats are limited to 2.0 credits. Special averages (e.g. for distinctions) do not follow this practice.
