How your result is calculated

Rule set v2026.10.02 · Verified 2 Oct 2026
Semester GPA
Semester GPA = Σ (Credits × Grade point) ÷ Σ Credits
Cumulative GPA
Cumulative GPA = Σ (Credits × Grade point) over all courses ÷ Σ Credits
Rules the calculator follows
  • GPA = quality points earned ÷ total credits enrolled for in the period; S, U, H, W, NR and I are not included.
  • The cumulative GPA includes all grades, credits and honor points attempted at any University of Missouri System campus.
  • Course repeat policy (not automatic — a GPA adjustment form must be submitted after the second attempt): if the first attempt was C-, D+, D, D-, F or WF, the grade of a second attempt at MU replaces it in the GPA; all grades from the second and later attempts count.
  • No more than 15 semester hours may be dropped from the GPA under the repeat policy; grades of C or higher cannot be repeated under it, a repeat cannot be taken S/U, and the policy cannot be used after graduation.
  • S/U: S means C- or higher and U means D+, D, D- or F; S and U are not included in semester or cumulative GPAs. Only one course per semester may be taken S/U, and S grades may make up at most 20 percent of the credits for the degree.
  • An NR not corrected within 12 months becomes F for undergraduates.
  • Students need a cumulative GPA of 2.00 to remain in good academic standing.
