How your result is calculated

Rule set v2026.10.02 · Verified 2 Oct 2026
GPA
GPA = Σ (Credit points × Grade point) ÷ Σ Credit points
CGPA
CGPA = Σ (Credit points × Grade point) over all courses ÷ Σ Credit points
Rules the calculator follows
  • GPA = Σ (grade value × unit credit points) ÷ Σ unit credit points, calculated to three decimal places.
  • All grades count, including fail grades and the grades of repeated units: N and NH carry 0.3 and WN (withdrawn fail) carries 0.
  • SFR, NSR, NE, NAS, WDN, WI and the competency grades PGO, NGO and WNGO are left out of the GPA.
  • NP (Near Pass, 0.7) applies only to units with a census date before 15 February 2010.
  • The GPA is calculated for students who started an award course on or after semester 1, 2008, and not for Masters by Research and PhD courses.
  • CGPA = Σ (CGPA grade value × unit credit points) ÷ Σ unit credit points, calculated to three decimal places.
  • The CGPA does not appear on the academic record; it is issued in a CGPA letter on request.
  • SFR, NSR, NE, NAS, WDN, WI and the competency grades PGO, NGO and WNGO are left out of the calculation.
  • WAM = [Σ (first-year unit marks × credit points × 0.5) + Σ (later-year unit marks × credit points × 1.0)] ÷ [Σ (first-year credit points × 0.5) + Σ (later-year credit points × 1.0)], calculated to three decimal places.
  • Every unit designated as first year (level 1) is weighted 0.5, whenever you take it; all other units are weighted 1.0.
  • Failed and repeated units are included: a hurdle fail (NH) counts with its mark of 45 and a withdrawn fail (WN) with a mark of 0.
  • NP, SFR, NSR, NE, NAS, WDN, WI, PGO, NGO, WNGO and interim grades (DEF, NS, WH) are not included.
  • Honours degrees of four or more years use the same WAM calculation for the honours course grade (H1 80–100, H2A 70 to <80, H2B 60 to <70, P 50 to <60).
