How your result is calculated
- The pass mark in every course and in the viva is 40%, i.e. grade D (grade point 2).
- Only courses graded D or above count towards credits in the result; no credit is earned for a grade below D, which is an F (Fail).
- Earned points for a course = credits × grade point. The GPA for a year = total points secured in the year ÷ total credits earned in the year.
- CGPA = total points secured over the 1st to 4th years ÷ total number of credits completed in the whole programme. The credits of a course graded F are added to the CGPA calculation once the F is improved to a higher grade.
- In improvement examinations (for courses graded C, C+ or D) the higher of the two results is used for the CGPA.
- A course graded F that is later improved can receive no grade higher than A-.
- A minimum CGPA of 2.00 is required for the Honours degree; a CGPA of 3.75 to 4.0 earns the degree with Distinction.
