How your result is calculated

Rule set v2026.10.02 · Verified 2 Oct 2026
GPA
GPA = Σ (Semester hours × Grade point) ÷ Σ Semester hours
CGPA
CGPA = Σ (Semester hours × Grade point) over all courses ÷ Σ Semester hours
Rules the calculator follows
  • GPA = sum of (numerical equivalent × semester hours) ÷ total semester hours. Example: B (3.000) in a 4-semester-hour course and A (4.000) in a 1-semester-hour course give 16 ÷ 5 = 3.200.
  • There is no A+. D+, D and D- are used for undergraduates only.
  • I, IP, S, U and X are not included in the GPA. A W does not affect the cumulative GPA, and administrative drops (AD) and withdrawals (AW) carry no GPA calculation.
  • Retakes: the most recent grade in a retaken course is the one used in the overall GPA (marked I on the transcript); earlier grades stay on the transcript marked E (excluded). For courses that may be repeated up to a stated number of completions, every completion counts.
  • An approved course substitution is treated as a retake in the GPA; the original grade stays on the transcript.
  • Satisfactory/unsatisfactory: a student not on academic probation may take one S/U course per semester with college permission, normally an elective outside the major, minor and NUpath requirements; S/U grades do not count in the GPA.
  • An Incomplete must be cleared within 30 days after the end of the term (or an earlier agreed date); otherwise the grade entered reflects the work completed, with no credit for the missing work.
  • A course taken elsewhere must earn a C (2.000) or better to be considered for transfer; transfer credit is recorded as T.
