How your result is calculated
- GPA = quality points earned ÷ quality credits/hours, on a scale from 4.000 (A) to 0.000 (F).
- Grade points: A 4.000, A- 3.667, B+ 3.333, B 3.000, B- 2.667, C+ 2.333, C 2.000, C- 1.667, D+ 1.333, D 1.000, F 0.000. There is no A+ and no D-.
- These weights were set by University Senate vote on March 29, 2018 and apply from fall 2018; grades and GPAs before fall 2018 keep the earlier weighting.
- P, I, IP, IF, W, NR, N, S, U, R and AUD are excluded from the GPA; not every mark is used by every school.
- How a repeated course affects the GPA depends on the student's school. In the College of Arts and Science a course may be repeated once (at most two courses in total), no extra credit is awarded, and both grades count in the GPA.
- College of Arts and Science pass/fail option: one course per term, at most 32 credits; P (A–D) is not counted in the GPA, but an F under the option is.
- An unresolved I lapses to the contingency grade on the Incomplete Agreement Form at the lapse deadline.
- Grades from other institutions and test credit are not counted in the NYU GPA; grades from designated exchange programs are converted to the NYU scale and included.
