How your result is calculated
- Only the letter grades with honor points (A to F) are used to determine the grade point average, which is rounded at two decimal places.
- A course may be repeated to improve the grade only at Oakland University; the most recent grade becomes the grade of record whether or not it is the highest, and earlier attempts are excluded from the GPA. Most courses allow at most 3 attempts.
- A repeat taken at another institution is not calculated into the Oakland grade point average.
- S/U grades are not included in GPA calculations; an S means C or better and a U means C- or lower. Students may elect S/U for up to 8 credits of general electives.
- An Incomplete (I) not completed within one year automatically becomes F unless graded by the instructor; a Progress (P) grade not resolved within two calendar years becomes F.
- Grades in skill development courses numbered 0000–0499 are included in the GPA even though their credits do not count toward graduation.
