How your result is calculated

Rule set v2026.10.02 · Verified 2 Oct 2026
OLSAS GPA
OLSAS GPA = Σ (Course weight × Grade point) ÷ Σ Course weight
Cumulative average
Cumulative average = Σ (Course weight × Grade point) over all courses ÷ Σ Course weight
Rules the calculator follows
  • Each course grade is converted with the scale OUAC assigns to your university; do not convert letter grades with a percentage scale.
  • Course weights: full-year course 2, half-year or semester course 1, three-quarter course 1.5, lab course 0.5.
  • Cumulative average = total of (course length × OLSAS value) ÷ total course lengths; it is not an average of the averages.
  • Includes all undergraduate credit courses from Canadian and US universities, including failed, incomplete, repeated and supplementary courses and courses extra to degree requirements.
  • When a transcript shows both letter and percentage grades, the percentage grade is used (UBC: letter grades).
  • Not included: challenge-for-credit courses and courses without a specific grade (e.g. Pass).
  • Years follow the Ontario academic year: two semesters are combined into one year (semesters 1–2 = first year, 3–4 = second year).
  • Each law school may use a different GPA than OLSAS calculates.
