How your result is calculated

Rule set v2026.10.02 · Verified 2 Oct 2026
OMSAS GPA
OMSAS GPA = Σ (Course weight × Grade point) ÷ Σ Course weight
Cumulative average
Cumulative average = Σ (Course weight × Grade point) over all courses ÷ Σ Course weight
Rules the calculator follows
  • Each course grade is converted with the scale OUAC assigns to your university; do not convert letter grades with a percentage scale.
  • Course weights: full-year course 2, half-year or semester course 1, three-quarter course 1.5, lab course 0.5.
  • Cumulative average = total of (course weight × converted grade) ÷ total course weights; it is not an average of the yearly averages.
  • Includes all undergraduate credit courses from Canadian and US universities, including failed, incomplete and supplementary courses and courses extra to degree requirements; both the original and the repeated grade count when both appear on the transcript.
  • When a transcript shows both letter and percentage grades, the percentage grade is used (UBC: letter grades).
  • Not normally included: Pass or Credit courses (Fail counts as a failure), IB and AP courses, college courses, challenge-for-credit, continuing education, graduate courses and undergraduate courses taken within a graduate program.
  • Each medical school may use a different GPA than OMSAS calculates.
