How your result is calculated

Rule set v2026.10.02 · Verified 2 Oct 2026
UO term GPA
UO term GPA = Σ (Credits × Grade point) ÷ Σ Credits
UO cumulative GPA
UO cumulative GPA = Σ (Credits × Grade point) over all courses ÷ Σ Credits
Rules the calculator follows
  • Each credit of A earns 4 points, B 3, C 2, D 1 and F 0; a plus adds 0.3 and a minus subtracts 0.3 per credit (so A+ = 4.3 and D- = 0.7). Instructors may add + or – to A, B, C and D.
  • GPA = total points ÷ total credits graded A, B, C, D and F. Marks of AU, I, W, X and Y and the grades P and N are left out.
  • The GPA is truncated at two digits after the decimal point (not rounded).
  • Undergraduate credits are recorded in quarter hours.
  • Pass/no pass: P means C- or better and N means D+ or lower for undergraduate work; neither counts in the GPA. P* and N* mark courses offered pass/no pass only.
  • Repeats (since fall 2019): all graded attempts of a course taken at the UO count in the term and cumulative GPA; credit for a nonrepeatable course is awarded only once. Without committee approval, a nonrepeatable course may be retaken only after No Pass or C- or lower, at most three times in total. (From fall 2016 to summer 2019 only the second grade of a repeated course counted in the cumulative GPA.)
  • First-term grade forgiveness (since fall 2020): an F earned in a student's first term in a course that allows pass/no pass is converted automatically to N (out of the GPA) unless the student opts out; a D may be converted to N on request by the end of the following term.
  • Incompletes roll to the default grade set in the Incomplete contract if the work is not finished by the agreed deadline (at most one academic year, or the grading deadline of the term the student applies to graduate).
  • Students who withdraw from every course in a term with W marks receive a 0.00 term GPA for academic standing purposes.
  • Only University of Oregon work is used in calculating the GPA.
