How your result is calculated

Rule set v2026.10.02 · Verified 2 Oct 2026
SGPA
SGPA = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) ÷ Σ Credit hours
CGPA
CGPA = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) over all courses ÷ Σ Credit hours
Rules the calculator follows
  • Course score (out of 100) = 0.50 × internal examination marks + 0.50 × semester-end examination marks.
  • Internal and semester-end examinations must be passed separately; the pass mark is 45% in each. A student who fails the internal examination is 'Not Qualified' for the semester-end examination.
  • SGPA = total honor points earned in the semester ÷ total credit hours taken in the semester; CGPA = cumulative honor points ÷ cumulative credit hours taken. Honor points for a course = grade point × credits of the course.
  • The cut-off for each letter grade may be adjusted slightly for a particular examination according to the difficulty of the question set.
  • A failed course must be retaken; within the maximum duration a student may retake up to two passed courses to reach a CGPA of 2.0, and the retake grade replaces the earlier grade.
  • An incomplete grade 'I' becomes 'F' if the requirements are not completed within the following semester.
  • A degree with distinction requires a CGPA of 3.60 or better; a CGPA of 2.0 is normally expected.
