How your result is calculated

Rule set v2026.10.02 · Verified 2 Oct 2026
SGPA
SGPA = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) ÷ Σ Credit hours
CGPA
CGPA = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) over all courses ÷ Σ Credit hours
Rules the calculator follows
  • Riphah grades on percentage marks: 80% and above earns 4.0, and from 50% each extra whole mark adds 0.1 grade point (50% = 1.0, 60% = 2.0, 70% = 3.0, 79% = 3.9). Below 50% is F (0). Relative grading may be used in classes of more than 20 students.
  • Letter grades: A+ 90% and above, A 80–89%, A- 78–79%, B+ 74–77%, B 70–73%, B- 68–69%, C+ 64–67%, C 60–63%, C- 58–59%, D+ 54–57%, D 50–53%, F below 50%.
  • A course's total marks are rounded once to the nearest whole number before grading (67.5 becomes 68; 67.4 becomes 67).
  • W, I and replaced grades (R) are left out of the SGPA and CGPA, as are non-credit courses; F counts with 0 grade points.
  • A course graded D, F or W may be repeated. The new grade is used and the old one is marked R; if the new grade is lower, the earlier grade stays and the new one is marked W.
  • SGPA and CGPA are rounded to two decimals on the transcript.
  • A CGPA of at least 2.0 must be kept: below 2.0 after a regular semester brings a probation warning, and three probations in a row mean relegation. A first-semester GPA below 1.0 means dismissal.
