How your result is calculated
- GPA = sum of (credit points × grade point value) ÷ sum of credit points.
- The GPA is rounded to one decimal place (RMIT's example: 108 ÷ 48 = 2.25, rounded up to 2.3).
- A Supplementary Pass (SP) carries 1 grade point; Fail (NN) and a failed mandatory hurdle (NH) carry 0.
- Not included: Pass grade only (PX), withdrawn (WDR), deferred or pending results (DEF, NEX, RNF, SUP, EOT, EQV), credit transfer and exemptions (EX, BX, MX, AL), recognition of prior learning and externally assessed grades (EPG, EFG).
- RMIT reports a Term GPA for a study period and a Cumulative GPA for the program or career to date.
- WAM = sum of (course mark × course credit points) ÷ sum of course credit points over the nominated set of courses; a 24-credit-point course weighs twice as much as a 12-credit-point course.
- In a four-year (embedded) honours program only the designated WAM courses count: advanced, honours-level courses nominated by the program, typically in year three or later. In a one-year honours program every completed course counts.
- RMIT's example rounds the WAM to a whole number: 80.625 is rounded up to 81.
- Honours level: WAM 80 or more = Honours First Class (H1); 70–79 = H2A; 60–69 = H2B; 50–59 = pass; 0–49 means the award is conferred without an honours level.
- A WAM course credited with a letter grade counts as HD 85, DI 75, CR 65, PA 55, SP 50, PX 50, and 0 for the fail grades LWN, NH and NN.
- In a double degree made of two honours degrees a separate WAM is calculated for each component degree after you complete the program.
- The WAM does not replace the GPA: the whole-program GPA stays on the transcript.

Questions
How is RMIT Term GPA calculated?
Term GPA is the average of your grade points weighted by credit points: multiply each course's credit points by the grade point for your grade, add these up, and divide by the total credit points. Under 4-point GPA (higher education), HD carries 4 grade points on a 4-point scale.
How is RMIT Cumulative GPA calculated?
Cumulative GPA is the average of the grade points of all courses taken so far, weighted by credit points.
Is OpenCGPA an official RMIT calculator?
No. OpenCGPA is independent and not affiliated with RMIT University. It applies the rules published in RMIT's own documents, linked on this page. Your official result is the one on your grade card.
