How your result is calculated

Rule set v2026.10.02 · Verified 2 Oct 2026
GPA
GPA = Σ (Credits × Grade point) ÷ Σ Credits (failed courses left out)
CGPA
CGPA = Σ (Credits × Grade point) over all courses ÷ Σ Credits
Rules the calculator follows
  • GPA = Σ (credits × grade point) ÷ Σ credits over the courses passed in the semester; CGPA = total grade points accumulated to date ÷ total credit hours. F grades are not counted in the GPA but stay permanently on the grade sheet and transcript.
  • GPA and CGPA are rounded off to two decimal places for reporting.
  • To pass a theory course a student must obtain at least 15 of the 60 marks of the semester final examination.
  • Courses graded D or higher count as earned credits. An F is a backlog course; an F in a core course must be repeated (an F in an optional course may be repeated or replaced by a substitute course).
  • The best grade counted at a backlog or short-semester examination is B.
  • A course graded D may be repeated for improvement if the student's CGPA falls below 2.20; the new grade is awarded, or the earlier grade is kept if the student fails.
  • I (incomplete) is given for courses such as project, thesis and design that continue from the odd to the even semester.
  • A minimum CGPA of 2.20 is required for the bachelor's degree.
  • CGPA 3.75 or above: degree with honors (First Class with Honors); 3.00 to below 3.75: First Class; 2.20 to below 3.00: Second Class.
