How your result is calculated
- GPA = total grade points earned ÷ units attempted; units earned with Credit (Cr) are not included.
- Plus/minus grading is used at the instructor's discretion; A+, F+ and F- are not issued.
- WU (withdrawal unauthorized) counts as an F in the GPA.
- An Incomplete (I) is not counted until one calendar year has passed; it then becomes IC (incomplete charged), which counts as an F.
- RP, W, AU, Cr and NC are not counted in the GPA.
- Credit/No Credit (undergraduate option): Credit means work equal to A through C (2.0 or more grade points); No Credit means C- through F. At most 15 Cr/NC units count toward a bachelor's degree (units accepted as transfer credit at admission excepted).
- Repeats: a course graded C- or lower may be repeated once at SDSU for grade forgiveness; only the latest grade is used in the GPA (the original stays on the transcript). Forgiveness is applied automatically, covers at most 16 units, and is not available for a course with a finding of academic dishonesty. No repeat is allowed once 28 units have been repeated.
- If a course graded C or better is repeated, only the original grade and units count. If a letter-graded course is repeated Cr/NC, the original grade stays in the GPA.
- SDSU keeps an SDSU campus GPA (SDSU courses, including Imperial Valley, Global Campus Special Sessions and Open University after spring 1998) and an overall cumulative GPA (all baccalaureate-level college work, including transfer units); good standing needs 2.0 in both.
