How your result is calculated

Rule set v2026.10.02 · Verified 2 Oct 2026
GPA (per semester)
GPA (per semester) = Σ (Credits × Grade point) ÷ Σ Credits
WGPA
WGPA = Σ (Semester credits × GPA (per semester)) ÷ Σ Semester credits

SLIIT's regulation adds conditions to this average; they are listed in the rules below.

Rules the calculator follows
  • The pass grade is C.
  • Semester GPA = Σ (credits × grade point) ÷ Σ credits for the courses followed in the semester.
  • WGPA: the GPA for each year (Σ credits × grade point ÷ Σ credits for that year) is multiplied by the year's weighting factor and the results are added. Weights — Faculty of Computing: year 1 0%, year 2 20%, year 3 30%, year 4 50%; Faculty of Engineering and School of Business: 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%. Weights may vary with programme requirements.
  • The WGPA is used to decide the award of classes for students from the 2017 intake onwards.
