How your result is calculated

Rule set v2026.10.02 · Verified 2 Oct 2026
Semester average
Semester average = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) ÷ Σ Credit hours
Cumulative average
Cumulative average = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) over all courses ÷ Σ Credit hours
Rules the calculator follows
  • GPA = grade points ÷ credit hours attempted at TCU, excluding hours taken Pass/No-Credit.
  • TCU keeps a semester average (courses taken at TCU that term) and a cumulative average (all work attempted at TCU).
  • Pass/No-Credit courses are disregarded in the GPA; U grades are not counted in the GPA and carry no credit hours.
  • P, NC, AU, AW and W are non-grade designators without grade points.
  • An Incomplete (I) not completed by the agreed date (no later than 60 days after the start of the next full semester) converts to F.
  • Where a policy requires C or better, C- does not meet it (likewise B-).
  • Repeats: when a TCU course is repeated at TCU, only the last letter grade counts in the GPA; all grades stay on the transcript. If a course is taken at TCU and elsewhere, only the TCU grade is used. Credit counts once.
  • Transfer credit hours may satisfy degree requirements but are not used in the cumulative GPA; no transfer credit for grades below C-.
