How your result is calculated
- Instructors may add a plus or minus to a grade; it appears on the transcript but is not used in calculating the GPA — only the letter's grade points count (A 4, B 3, C 2, D 1).
- Current (semester) GPA = grade points earned that semester ÷ semester hours of all courses registered that semester, excluding courses graded DG, I, P, CR or PR. The cumulative GPA is computed the same way over all courses taken at Texas Tech, including hours for an F.
- Only courses taken and grades received at Texas Tech count in the GPA.
- Grade replacement: only D and F grades can be replaced, by retaking the course at Texas Tech (the Registrar processes it automatically); the grade of the most recent attempt counts in the cumulative GPA (an F on a retake replaces a D) until a C or better is earned. There is no limit on attempts, but tuition rises after the third. The original grade stays on the transcript marked as replaced; courses cannot be replaced after graduation.
- Honors designations use a 'pure' Texas Tech GPA that includes all coursework, including replaced grades.
- Pass/fail: up to 13 elective semester hours; a P is not in the GPA, but an F in a pass/fail course is.
- An Incomplete (I) reverts to F after one calendar year if its conditions are not met.
- Students who stop attending without dropping receive an F; undergraduates may drop at most six courses (DG) in their career, and a complete withdrawal records W in each class.

How is TTU Cumulative grade point average calculated?

Is OpenCGPA an official TTU calculator?
No. OpenCGPA is independent and not affiliated with Texas Tech University. It applies the rules published in TTU's own documents, linked on this page. Your official result is the one on your grade card.
