How your result is calculated
Programmes governed by Thapar Institute's Academic Regulations (the regulations apply to all its programmes).
Source: Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala, Academic Regulations (Updated March 2026) (retrieved 2 Oct 2026). Checked against the document on 2 Oct 2026.
- Grades are awarded on overall performance in the course; the regulations print no marks ranges for the grades.
- A+, A, A-, B, B- and C are the pass grades. A+ is awarded only in exceptional cases and only when the class has at least 100 students.
- E, F and X are fail grades: the course becomes a backlog and has to be cleared again. E carries 2 grade points and F carries 0.
- I (Incomplete) and X grades are not taken into account when the CGPA is calculated.
- When a course is repeated, the new grade replaces the earlier one in the CGPA.
- CGPA = Σ (credits × grade point) ÷ Σ credits over all courses since entry.
