How your result is calculated
- GPA = total grade points earned ÷ semester hours attempted, with A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, and F and U = 0 points. Texas State does not use plus or minus grades.
- Neither hours nor grades are calculated for I, CR, PR, NC or W.
- The Texas State GPA covers only work attempted at Texas State; courses taken at other schools are not included in it.
- Repeats (since fall 1991): when a course is taken more than once at Texas State, the first grade is excluded and the second grade (first repeat) and all later grades count in hours attempted, grade points and GPA, regardless of the grade earned. W, I, PR and RP grades are excluded.
- If the last attempt of a course is taken at another school, it can meet degree requirements but the last Texas State grade still counts in the Texas State GPA. A course taken for transfer credit must be repeated as transfer credit to count as a repeat.
- A W is assigned automatically for drops up to the first 60 percent of the term; after that a W (passing) or U (failing, 0 points) is assigned.
- An Incomplete becomes F automatically one year after it is assigned (or sooner if the instructor specifies) and then counts in the GPA. A student cannot graduate with an I on the record.
