How your result is calculated

Rule set v2026.10.02 · Verified 2 Oct 2026
GPA
GPA = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) ÷ Σ Credit hours
CGPA
CGPA = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) over all courses ÷ Σ Credit hours
Rules the calculator follows
  • GPA = total grade points ÷ credit hours attempted in courses that receive grades (not marks); I, AU, CR, R, S and W marks are not counted.
  • Final grades are A, B, C, D and F; plus and minus grades carry grade-point values only in the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design.
  • Repeats: all course attempts stay on the transcript and count in the GPA. A course may be repeated once (two enrollments); a third attempt needs a student success consultation and a fourth a petition.
  • Grade exclusion: undergraduates may petition to exclude up to 4 University of Arkansas courses graded D or F from the cumulative GPA (with a lab taken in the same semester counting as one course). The course stays on the transcript with a notation, no longer counts toward the degree, and the exclusion must be posted before the degree is conferred and cannot be moved later.
  • Grade forgiveness approved before fall 2020 counts toward the 4-course exclusion limit; students who used grade renewal or forgiveness before fall 1986 or after fall 1996 have only the last grade used in the GPA.
  • P (pass/fail option, C- or better) and PD count as credit hours but do not affect the GPA; NC neither earns hours nor affects the GPA.
  • An I not completed within 12 months after the end of the term becomes F.
