How your result is calculated
- Plus or minus suffixes add or subtract 0.3 grade point per unit, except A+, which earns 4 points per unit (the same as A).
- GPA = sum of grade points (grade points per unit × course units, letter-graded courses) ÷ sum of units attempted.
- P, NP, S, U, NR, IP and I grades and workload credit are excluded from the GPA.
- The GPA on the record is the grade point average at the University of California.
- W is recorded for a course dropped after the sixth week; it carries no grade points and is not calculated in the UC GPA.
- Pass/Not Pass: up to an average of four units per quarter for students in good standing; C- or better is recorded as P, D+ or below as NP (no credit); neither is computed in the GPA.
- An Incomplete (I) is not used in the GPA while it can be made up; if the work is not completed within the period set by the instructor, within 12 months after the quarter it was given, or before the end of the quarter preceding the degree (whichever comes first), it becomes F, NP or U and counts in the GPA.
- An NR (No Report) becomes F, NP or U after one quarter of subsequent enrollment if not replaced.
- Repeats: only courses graded C-, D+, D, D-, F or NP may be repeated. For the first 16 units repeated, only the most recent grade counts in the GPA; for further repetitions all grades count. Unit credit is given once; letter-graded courses must be repeated for a letter grade; repeating a course more than once needs school approval.

Questions
How is UCI Quarter grade point average calculated?
Quarter grade point average is the average of your grade points weighted by units: multiply each course's units by the grade point for your grade, add these up, and divide by the total units. Under Undergraduate grading system, A+ carries 4 grade points on a 4-point scale.
How is UCI Cumulative grade point average calculated?
Cumulative grade point average is the average of the grade points of all courses taken so far, weighted by units.
Is OpenCGPA an official UCI calculator?
No. OpenCGPA is independent and not affiliated with University of California, Irvine. It applies the rules published in UCI's own documents, linked on this page. Your official result is the one on your grade card.
