GPA
GPA = Σ (Units × Grade point) ÷ Σ Units
CGPA
CGPA = Σ (Units × Grade point) over all courses ÷ Σ Units
Rules the calculator follows
  • GPA = grade points earned ÷ units attempted; grade points = grade value × course units (e.g. A-, B-, C+ in three 4-unit courses = 34.8 ÷ 12 = 2.9).
  • A+ carries the same 4.0 grade points as A; other plus grades add 0.3 and minus grades subtract 0.3.
  • Only grades earned in regular or summer sessions at any UC campus (and in UCLA Extension XLC courses) count in the UCLA GPA; grades from other institutions do not.
  • Repeats: only courses graded C-, D+, D, D-, F or NP may be repeated, and a letter-graded course must be repeated for a letter grade. For the first 16 units repeated, only the most recent grade counts in the GPA; after that, all grades count. Degree credit is given once; every grade stays on the record. More than one repetition needs the dean's approval.
  • P/NP: P = C or better. P, NP, I, IP, DR and NR are disregarded in the GPA. One P/NP course per term (two if none was taken P/NP the preceding term).
  • An I not completed by the end of the next full term in residence becomes F or NP; once replaced by a letter grade, its units and grade points count.
  • A D may count toward the degree but must be offset by higher grades to remain in good standing.
