How your result is calculated
- Grade points are awarded per semester hour as shown in the table; GPA = total grade points earned ÷ semester hours in which a letter grade was received.
- S, U, NR, IP, I and W carry no grade points and are not used in the GPA.
- Decimals beyond two places are truncated, not rounded (for example 3.3333 becomes 3.33).
- The cumulative GPA is based on all work taken at the University of Houston, including repeated courses; a repeated course counts as a new course in the cumulative GPA.
- First-year grade exclusion: a grade of D+ or below earned within the first twelve months after initial matriculation can be excluded from the cumulative GPA if the course is repeated at UH within twelve months; once per course, at most three courses, no more than one at the 3000 level, none at the 4000 or 5000 level, and not for grades resulting from an academic honesty violation.
- Grade exclusion applies only to students who entered UH in Fall 2018 or later; the original grade stays on the transcript with a notation.
- An Incomplete not completed within the time allotted (at most one year) converts to F; for checking degree grade requirements, every I is computed as an F in the cumulative GPA.
- Unreported grades (NR) convert to F or U 90 days after the term closes.
- Passing grades that earn credit are A through D- and S; F earns no credit.

Questions
How is UH Semester GPA calculated?

How is UH Cumulative GPA calculated?
Cumulative GPA is the average of the grade points of all courses taken so far, weighted by semester hours.
Is OpenCGPA an official UH calculator?
No. OpenCGPA is independent and not affiliated with University of Houston. It applies the rules published in UH's own documents, linked on this page. Your official result is the one on your grade card.
