How your result is calculated
- The GPA is calculated on all courses attempted for which grades and credits are assigned; S, U, CR, NC, PS, PP, NP, PZ and PX are not included.
- General rule: when a course is repeated, both the original and later grades are included in the average, but the credit is counted only once.
- Grade replacement: up to 4 distinct courses (maximum 10 semester hours) taken at Urbana-Champaign may be repeated once each for grade replacement, only if the first grade was C-, D+, D, D- or F; only the second grade then counts in the GPA. The student must file the form in the first half of the term.
- If a student fails the replacement attempt after passing the first attempt, the general rule applies and all grades count.
- Courses with an officially reported academic integrity violation cannot be repeated for grade replacement, and replacement is not available for a degree program already awarded.
- Credit/no credit: D- or better becomes CR (since fall 2022) and F becomes NC; neither counts in the GPA. At most 18 credit/no credit hours may be applied toward a degree.
- An undergraduate Incomplete not removed by the end of the first eight weeks of the next fall or spring semester becomes F (or U).
