How your result is calculated
- GPA = quality points ÷ credit hours (whether earned or not) in courses graded A, B, C, D or E; developmental or remedial courses are excluded.
- Quality points per credit hour: A 4, B 3, C 2, D 1, E 0. The general undergraduate system has no plus or minus grades.
- Exception: courses numbered 800 or higher in the College of Design or the Program in Landscape Architecture use plus/minus grades (A 4.0, A- 3.7, B+ 3.3, B 3.0, B- 2.7, C+ 2.3, C 2.0, C- 1.7, D+ 1.3, D 1.0, D- 0.7, E 0), and those points count in the GPA whatever the student's college.
- P, F (pass/fail), CR, S, UN, IP, I, AU and W do not enter the GPA.
- Pass/fail: students above the freshman level and not on probation may take up to four elective courses pass/fail; neither P nor F counts in the GPA.
- Repeat option: for up to four distinct courses, the highest grade among all completed attempts is used in the cumulative GPA; the other grades stay on the transcript. Repeats must be taken at UK, and the option cannot be used for XE or XF grades or, after a degree, for courses taken before it.
- If a course passed with B or better is repeated without the repeat option, later grades of B or better and their credit hours are ignored in the GPA.
- An I not replaced within 12 months (or before graduation) becomes an E and the GPA is adjusted.
- Transfer grades are not counted in the UK GPA.
- An undergraduate readmitted after two or more continuous years away may be eligible for Academic Forgiveness, which can change how earlier coursework counts in the GPA.

Questions
How is UK Term GPA calculated?
Term GPA is the average of your grade points weighted by credit hours: multiply each course's credit hours by the grade point for your grade, add these up, and divide by the total credit hours. Under Undergraduate general grading system, A carries 4 grade points on a 4-point scale.
How is UK Cumulative GPA calculated?
Cumulative GPA is the average of the grade points of all courses taken so far, weighted by credit hours.
Is OpenCGPA an official UK calculator?
No. OpenCGPA is independent and not affiliated with University of Kentucky. It applies the rules published in UK's own documents, linked on this page. Your official result is the one on your grade card.
