How your result is calculated
- GPA = total quality points ÷ GPA hours; quality points = grade points (A 4, B 3, C 2, D 1, F 0) × credit hours. Courses graded I, IP, W, P, AU or N are excluded.
- Undergraduate grades have no plus or minus.
- Only credits attempted at UNC Charlotte are included in the GPA.
- Grade replacement is applied automatically to the first two courses (maximum 8 credit hours) repeated after a grade of C or below: only the higher grade counts in the GPA; both grades stay on the transcript. For any other repeat, all grades count in the GPA.
- Grade replacement needs both attempts graded by UNC Charlotte, is not processed after graduation, and does not apply to grades earned before Fall 2007 or given for academic dishonesty. Withdrawing from a replacement repeat (other than WE) keeps the earlier grade and still uses one of the two replacements.
- Pass/No Credit option: up to four courses (at most one per academic year), not for the major, minor or general education; P counts toward graduation hours but not the GPA.
- An I not completed by the instructor's deadline (no later than 12 months) automatically becomes F, U or N.
- W grades are limited to 16 credit hours; WE (extenuating circumstances) does not count toward that limit.
