How your result is calculated

Rule set v2026.10.02 · Verified 2 Oct 2026
Semester GPA
Semester GPA = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) ÷ Σ Credit hours
Cumulative GPA
Cumulative GPA = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) over all courses ÷ Σ Credit hours
Rules the calculator follows
  • GPA = total quality (grade) points ÷ total semester hours attempted in graded courses.
  • A+ earns the same 4.0 grade points as A.
  • W, I, P and N carry no grade points and are not used in the GPA.
  • Pass (P) means C or better; neither P nor N affects the GPA.
  • The cumulative GPA covers University of Nebraska coursework taken at Kearney, Lincoln and Omaha; grades from institutions outside the NU System do not enter it.
  • Repeats: if a course earned below C (C-, D+, D, D- or F) is repeated at the University of Nebraska, only the most recent letter grade counts in the cumulative GPA; the earlier grade stays on the transcript. A repeat graded P, I, N, W or NR does not remove the earlier grade.
  • Academic bankruptcy can remove one or two complete semesters from the cumulative GPA (conditions apply).
