How your result is calculated
- GPA = total points earned ÷ total semester credit hours attempted, leaving out noncredit courses and courses marked S, U, I, X, W or AD.
- Plus and minus grades are given at the instructor's option; there is no A+.
- D- and above (and S) are passing grades; an F counts toward credits attempted and in the GPA, including F in satisfactory/fail courses.
- Repeats: any course may be repeated (some courses limit attempts). When a course is attempted more than once, only the original grade is left out of the GPA; every later attempt counts, and credit is earned only for the latest attempt. The repeat must use the same grading option, and all grades stay on the transcript.
- An Incomplete must be made up by the last day of the next regular semester (or the instructor's earlier deadline); otherwise it changes to F (U for satisfactory/unsatisfactory courses) and the GPA is adjusted.
- A withdrawal (W, up to 60% into the course) is not calculated in the GPA; students who stop attending without withdrawing receive F.
- Only grade points earned in UNLV courses are used; grade points from transferred courses are not included.
- Grade point balance (GPB) shows how far above or below a 2.00 GPA a student is: each credit adds A +2.0, A- +1.7, B+ +1.3, B +1.0, B- +0.7, C+ +0.3, C 0.0, C- -0.3, D+ -0.7, D -1.0, D- -1.3, F -2.0.
- Academic renewal: after three years away, one semester of earlier UNLV coursework can be disregarded in the GPA (once, before the first bachelor's degree).
