How your result is calculated

Rule set v2026.10.02 · Verified 2 Oct 2026
GPA
GPA = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) ÷ Σ Credit hours
CGPA
CGPA = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) over all courses ÷ Σ Credit hours
Rules the calculator follows
  • Each whole percentage from 40% to 79% has its own grade point (40% = 1.00, 50% = 2.00, 65% = 3.00, 79% = 3.94); 80% and above earns 4.00 and below 40% is F (0).
  • Letter grades: A+ 85–100%, A 80–84%, B+ 75–79%, B 70–74%, B- 65–69%, C+ 60–64%, C 55–59%, C- 50–54%, D 40–49% and F below 40%.
  • The pass mark in each course is 50%, even though marks of 40–49% are graded D with 1.00–1.90 grade points.
  • A fraction of a mark in a course total counts as a whole mark (60.1 and 60.9 both become 61); the CGPA itself is not rounded off.
  • Non-credit courses must be passed but are not counted in the GPA/CGPA. Withdrawing after the 4th week gives an F, which counts in the GPA.
  • Failed courses may be repeated and passed grades improved; the better grade is shown on the transcript.
  • In the 4-year BS you need a GPA of at least 1.75 and must pass at least half the courses in the first semester; the minimum CGPA is then 1.75 after the 2nd semester, 2.00 after the 3rd and 4th, 2.10, 2.20 and 2.25 after the 5th to 7th and 2.50 after the 8th, and a CGPA of 2.50 is needed to complete the degree (2.00 for a 2-year Associate Degree).
