How your result is calculated
- Grade points = course units × the numeric value of the letter grade.
- CGPA = sum of all grade points ÷ sum of all course units taken, passed or failed. TGPA uses the courses taken in one term.
- The CGPA is rounded to two decimal places (up if the third decimal is 5 or higher). Final course grades are rounded up if the first decimal is 5 or higher.
- ABS (absent) and EIN (failure/incomplete) count as a failing grade (F, 0).
- CR, NC, P, S and NS do not affect the average. DR (drop) carries no grade.
- The minimum passing grade for undergraduate courses is D, except C in all Faculty of Education undergraduate courses, Undergraduate Medical Education (MED, CLI) and the Doctor of Pharmacy (PHA), and C+ in nursing (NSG) and some nutrition (NUT) courses.
- After a supplemental exam, only the grade assigned after that exam counts in the average.
- A course, passed or failed, may be attempted up to three times. Only the last grade counts in the CGPA, and a failing grade can replace a passing grade.
- Averages include courses taken at the University of Ottawa, Saint Paul University, Dominican University College and Carleton University only. The CGPA is reset to zero on admission to a second bachelor's or a professional program.
