How your result is calculated

Rule set v2026.10.02 · Verified 2 Oct 2026
GPA
GPA = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) ÷ Σ Credit hours
CGPA
CGPA = Σ (Credit hours × Grade point) over all courses ÷ Σ Credit hours
Rules the calculator follows
  • GPA = quality points earned at USF ÷ non-excluded credit hours attempted at USF; quality points = credit hours × grade quality value. Courses graded I, IU, M, MU, N, S, U, W, Z and E are excluded.
  • A+ and A both carry 4.00.
  • Grade forgiveness: an undergraduate may repeat a course at USF and have the repeat grade replace the original in the cumulative GPA, if the repeat is graded A–F, is D- or higher and is higher than the first grade. Limited to three courses with one repeat per course; not for S/U courses or FF grades; cannot be rescinded; not for courses counted toward a USF bachelor's degree already awarded. The original grade stays on the transcript annotated E.
  • S/U: A, B, C or C- = S; D or F = U; neither is computed in the GPA.
  • An I is not computed in the GPA until removed; if not removed within the instructor's limit (at most two semesters) it becomes IF or IU, and IF is calculated in the cumulative GPA.
