How your result is calculated
- The cumulative University grade point average includes all work undertaken at The University of Texas at Austin (including credit by examination, correspondence, and extension) for which a letter grade is recorded; courses with the symbol I, Q, W, X, S, U, or CR are excluded.
- If a course is repeated, all grades and all semester hours are used to calculate the University grade point average; the official grade in the course is the last one assigned.
- Undergraduates taking a course pass/fail receive CR for a grade of D- or better, which is not counted in the GPA; a grade of F earned on the pass/fail basis is counted in the University grade point average.
- Credit by examination recorded since September 15, 2006 is recorded as CR and is not included in the cumulative University grade point average.
- While the symbol X is on the record the course is not counted in the GPA; if the course is not completed by the grade deadline of the next fall or spring semester, an F is recorded.
- Undergraduates must earn at least a D- to receive credit for a course and need a cumulative University grade point average of at least 2.00 to maintain satisfactory progress.
- Students in Business, Communication, Engineering, Liberal Arts, Natural Sciences, Nursing and Pharmacy may not repeat for credit a course in which they earned C- or better.
