How your result is calculated
- Grade points = the grade's points × the semester credit hours (an A in a 3-hour course = 12 grade points). GPA = total grade points ÷ semester credit hours for which a grade other than I, NC or CR is received.
- A+ earns the same 4.000 grade points as A; minus and plus grades are printed to three decimals (A- 3.670, B+ 3.330 … D- 0.670).
- All GPAs, term and cumulative, are rounded from the fourth to the third decimal place and shown with three decimals.
- Only grades earned at UT Dallas are used in the GPA; accepted transfer credit counts only toward hours for graduation.
- Credit/no credit: CR means C (2.000) or better; courses taken credit/no credit are not used in the GPA. Limited to 12 semester credit hours or 20% of UT Dallas upper-division coursework, whichever is smaller (courses offered only as credit/no credit in the major excluded).
- Repeats: only a course graded C- or below may be repeated for a better grade, with at most three grade-bearing attempts (withdrawals count as attempts). The grade from the first attempt is not used in the GPA; every later attempt is used. All grades stay on the transcript.
- A course failed at UT Dallas and then passed elsewhere keeps the UT Dallas F in the cumulative GPA.
- An Incomplete not completed within the instructor's deadline (at most eight weeks from the start of the next long semester) changes automatically to F.
